Aji-sen Ramen, Gurney Plaza Penang

I haven’t been to the row of restaurants at the ground floor of Gurney Plaza because of the dusts from the construction works. I couldn’t even settle down for a quiet time with a cup of coffee at Coffee Beans because of the rat-a-tat-tat noises.

So, I do not notice when Aji-sen Ramen was opened. Anyway, I was there this afternoon and decided to give this place a try.

What I like about Aji-sen Ramen:

1) Pigs!

Good ramen must have the stock made with pork. Previously, I used to get my ramen with pork from Japin Noodle but they had shifted to Island Plaza and opened another branch in Queensbay. So, it has been a while since I can get nice, pork ramen. Great that Aji-sen ramen serves pork.

2) Ramen

This is the tokusen ramen with a huge piece of pork tendon, three slices of fatty pork and etc. The soup is tasty and doesn’t have the overpowering miso smell.

3) Mixture of ramen, rice and fried stuffs

At Aji-sen ramen, you get a nice mixture of all the above.

What I hope Aji-sen Ramen will improve….

1) Train your staffs better. Most of them are blur and unsure of things. We didn’t get the kind of welcoming and enthusiasm like other Japanese joints. We need to ask for the extra bowls for the kids, a couple of times before your waitresses remember.

2) Your music is too loud and too la-la. Hey, Mandarin la-la pop songs don’t fit in with the kind of patrons you want. They suit only your wait staffs.

3) Something is wrong with the interior because the voices from the patrons seem to boom and gets annoyingly loud. Maybe some cushion to absorb the noises? Too much echoes now.

4) Your desserts are way too expensive. A scoop of icecream doesn’t have to cost RM6.50.

5) Teach your staffs and cashiers to smile.

Otherwise, I like Aji-sen and will drop by often.

Yep…agree that the staff is quite blur when I ask them what is in this dish….price wise is not the cheaper one around for a bowl of noddles…even the appetizers I ordered ar not cheap…I think I ordered something like deep fried breaded prawns but the actual dish looks quite pathethic..

[…] It gives me that uncomfortable feeling, I am not sure why. Maybe it is from the unpleasant visit to Aji-Sen Ramen, Gurney Plaza, Penang. Posted by lilian on January 27th, 2008 under […]
