Is it legal to buy absinthe? | Food, travel, recipe & sights

Alcohol and food

I was cooking a while back and realize how reliant I am on alcohol for my cooking. I must have the mandatory splash of Chinese cooking wine, either white or red, in most of my dishes. We also use them in the preparation of foods for the post-natal moms and use them for their medicinal purposes.

It seems that not only the Chinese use alcohol in this manner, i.e. both as drinking pleasure, cooking and as medicine. In the nineteenth century, priests used the wormwood to make a strong spirit call the Absinthe. I did a little Googling and found that it is a potent spirit. So far, the most kick-ass alcohol I have tasted is the grappa which my hubby’s Italian colleague introduced to us.

I do not know how strong this Absinthe is but from what I read on this blog on absinthe alcohol, it is more like an art. There are so many steps and so many accessories to serving it. It looks more like a social past time because they will place sugar on top, pour water to mix and etc etc. And the ‘fun’ part is it is not easily available, you know what I mean?

Now, that got me really curious. I wonder where I can Taste the real versinthe? Do you know that in the olden times, they have some substances in the spirit that can give you a total high? Those are banned by the FDA now and unless you can get an 18th century bottled one, then, you can fly. LOL. I hope I have not get anyone curious enough to buy absinthe.

If you get a serious hangover, don’t blame me! :P
