On Easter evening, I was craving for pork. So, we headed to Ingolf German restaurant but unfortunately, the place was fully reserved. I guess all the Catholics were craving pork at the same time?

Hubby who went to park his car earlier had paid for one hour parking fee and the man refused to go elsewhere ‘cos he said the money will be wasted. So, I had to stand there, pondering hard whether I should eat at the Bulgarian restaurant next door. I had a rather unpleasant experience in my last visit to this Bulgarian restaurant. We can’t think of any other places serving pork except Edelweiss so we decided to eat Bulgarian.

They were having some set dinner at only RM50++ per person which include a glass of red wine, soup or appetizer, main meal and dessert. We ordered two sets because we know their portions are huge. My hubby ordered a plate of spaghetti with cream sauce from the ala carte menu.

My son ordered the salad which is loaded with shrimps and smoked salmon. Meanwhile, I had the mushroom soup which is tasty. They also provide generous portion of butter and hot dinner rolls.

My son’s steak with cheese and potatoes is overflowing with melted cheese. The meal come with a portion of pickled cabbage, asparagus, fries and other type of greens.

I love the pork knuckle which is huge. The pork knuckle is roasted till tender, with some melt in the mouth fats. They give some barbeque sauce but I didn’t pour the sauce because the knuckle is tasty as it is.

With the two main meals and the spaghetti, four of us were already struggling to finish them. Lucky we didn’t order three meals or we would need to pack them again.

The dessert was banana cheese cake and it was yummy.

I think this restaurant has changed all their waiters and waitresses. The new batch seems better compared to the previous visit where they tried too hard to be hospitable.

The only bleh of the evening was this moron who was trying to show off his cheap glass of red wine. He sat there, trying to impress the girlfriend by swirling the glass almost the whole time! Doh! Just because he watched some crappy Astro AEC cookshow, he must think he is some fine dining connoisseur. I feel like going over to his table and pour my glass of red wine on his head and tell him to stop swirling because the action is giving me headache. LOL.

The cost of the dinner? It was just RM155 which compared to Secret Recipe, is value for money. (Read my bad review of Secret Recipe)

Do you remember one KFC or is it McDonald’s advertisement where this family was driving in a storm and they were looking for food? Well, we had that moment today. A huge storm hit and heavy rain and thunder and lightning were flashing in the sky. It was one mean storm. However, we were hungry and need food badly.

So, hubby drove us in the storm but we didn’t know where to head to because we couldn’t possibly get down from the car without getting wet. Then, we had an idea to head to Tesco as it has shaded carpark. However, foods at Tesco sucks.

After much argument, debating, cajoling and fighting, we settled for Kentucky Fried Chicken.

I discovered the Spicy something chicken with curry leaves and crunchy, spicy batter is rather good on a rainy day. I wanted a cheeze meltz or something but they had ran out of stock. So, I made do with cheesy wedges.

We rarely go to fast food restaurants like KFC or McD unless we really have no other choices. If you live in Penang, you never will never run out of choices, actually.

This post is all about foods as I had written some parts on my personal blog and also on my Best Recipe blog.

The smoked pork belly from Edelweiss is so melt-in-the-mouth and sinful can die kind of tenderness. Although the fatty part is visible, I do not feel the oiliness of the pork.

Here’s a close-up of the three layers pork.

Then, there is another dish of gammon ham which was ordered by another blogger.

I also stole a shot of this barbeque pork ribs from the next table. It looks delicious and I shall try that the next time I go to Edelweiss.

My son ordered the leg of lamb but he found it a bit sinewy.

The fifth choice is curry sausages and I heard one blogger said it is good as well.

So yes, the Penang Food Bloggers meet was a success. I heard that this second food bloggers gathering is more than twice the number of the first gathering. Now, they are planning another one and I hope more food bloggers will join us. There are lots of tips to learn from each other, including how much we can make from each our blogs and how draw lots of traffic. Secrets that we don’t blog publicly but only whisper into each other ears. Want to know? Next time join us!

This Four Seasons is not the Four Seasons which my nephew had his wedding banquet. That Four Seasons in Singapore is a posh hotel while this Four Seasons in Penang is a humble and simple restaurant. I have seen the place for a long time but never bother to find out what they sell because it says ‘Tea House’. I thought they only sell tea. Then, I read from Penang Tua Pui’s blog that it is a restaurant in Sunway Tunas with another restaurant in Jalan Terengganu.

It is airconditioned and yet, they don’t stuff those peanuts and wet hankies in your face and charge you a fee. I like that. I hate the peanuts because it normally spoil my children’s appetite before their meals.

I ordered the oyster noodle which is not bad because it has lots of prawns, oysters, fish and pork fillets.

Can you see the crispy bak ew pok (lard pieces)? Yummm…..My little boy likes the oyster noodle so much, he hijacked it and ate all the yellow noodles, leaving the prawns, fish, oysters and pork for me.

As there are only a few of us, i.e. hubby and another son, they ordered only two dishes and was given an extra bowl of complimentary lotus root soup. Another bonus point for them because normally other shops will charge you at least RM3-RM5 for that bowl of soup with ribs and lotus roots. The above is their signature tofu dish. It is tofu with enoki mushrooms and dried scallops. There are generous pieces of dried scallops.

Another dish is the shop signature spare ribs. I am not sure what they flavour the ribs but it has some honey and marmite flavour, I think. I find it a bit salty but that’s probably I didn’t eat it with white rice.

Four Seasons is at 80-U, Jalan Terengganu, Penang. The place is very bright with yellow and green signboards. It is somewhere near the Terengganu hawker centre where Jalan Kampar flats are.

We were at Old Town Kopitiam the other day for some toasts and half-boiled eggs. I like the Nanyang something coffee from Old Town. It gives me a high after a cup because it is so thick and kao.

So far, I have not been able to find the traditional kopitiam that offers both coffee and toasts that taste good. Either the toast is good or the coffee is good, and never a combination of them.

Therefore, I go to Old Town on and off for the toast and coffee. The above is the thick toast with kaya and butter with a dash of condensed milk. Wicked.

However, the other things offered by Old Town like their noodles and rice just didn’t quite satisfy my tastebuds. The oomph is not there. It is only almost there. So, after we had finished out toast and bread at Old Town Kopitiam at New World Park, we went and try the Maria Sui Kao at an old kopitiam outside.

I regretted that I ordered the Mee Java from Old Town because this old kopitiam has some better looking and more authentic Mee Jawa. The guy selling the Mee Jawa has photos of him with the previous CM and also some awards he get from the Governor. Must make mental note to check out this coffee shop on my next trip because I saw everyone having a plate of mee jawa there.
