Chee Cheong Chook – Pig’s intestine porridge

DSC00051_1

If you have tasted this stall chee cheong chook, then, you probably can never find a better one. I tried once in Hongkong and that one sucks compared to the one in Penang. The stall is located at the corner of New Lane and Macalister. New Lane is where Sunway Hotel is. They start selling around 2 pm onwards and during the evening when business is good, the stall owner temper will flare and they may even scold you!

Well, that shows how good their business is. It is probably why I haven’t been there for years already. I like to order mine without char siew and with added crispy fried instestine. But when business is good, they not only couldn’t be bothered to listen, they even asked me to carry my own bowl of porridge. Hrmmmppphh…I am so not gonna carry a bowl of hot, boiling porridge across a street just to eat it.

So, go in the late afternoon if you want better treatment.

What goes into this smooth and tasty broth are pig’s tongue, char siew or barbequed pork, pig intestines in two forms, crispy fried ones and soft, boiled ones plus pig’s stomach. Does the mention of all the stuffs make you feel sick already? Hah, you do not know what you are missing. The crispy intestine is so delicious.

The bowl above costs RM5 because I asked for extra crispy stuffs.

Chee Cheong Chook in Hong Kong? Where did you find that?

I am based here in HKG and I can tell you that ppl here prefer Tang Chai Chook (“Sampan”. They seldom take inerts here..

Dont eat at the New lane store as the price is bloated…the smallest bowl cost RM4 which I think is cut throat!!!
