Escargots aka siput babi
You know something? The French make escargots so classy. They make it delectable, expensive and a gourmet food.
But over here, we call them sibut babi or pig snails. I am not sure why or how the babi word comes in. The garden snails we have are nothing like pigs, right?
I ordered this dish which they call escargots but I doubt the snails are from France. However, it doesn’t smell anything weird. Kind of nice ‘cos I like the muscle and sinewy texture. Plus the sauce is yummy.
I haven’t been to a French restaurant before because they are kick-ass expensive. When I was in Paris, I only passed by and peek through their glass windows. It is even more expensive to eat French foods in France. So, I wonder what real escargots taste like? The above dish is from Bakerzin, a new outlet in Queensbay Mall Penang. It is on the same floor as Paddington Pancake.

The one and only time I had escargots was years ago. The ex’s sister was a stewardess and had them packed and air-flown back to KL for us to try. Can’t really remember how it taste like but all I can remember was that it taste very good when they’re stuffed with butter and herbs and baked for a little while.
