Good food blog, bad traffic – How to improve?
I was surfing through some related food blogs and found a few that are so impressive. The owner has taken a lot of trouble to produce saliva dripping photos, carefully written posts with exact measurements of their ingredients and clear, proper instructions.
These blogs put me to shame because sometimes, I expect my readers to know what I am talking about. I do not need to tell them how to cut the vegetables or how to slice their meats because they must know these already. If you notice, I am the lazy blogger who gives you the estimated quantities of vegetables and ask people to cook without telling them if the vegetable needs to be julienne, cut into chunks, slice thinly, chopped or what. *hangs head in shame*
However, I took a little spying around and discover that many of these blogs, though a lot more presentable, have much lower traffic. It is a pity because these wonderful blogs should be seen by everyone. So, now comes my SEO-wannbe advices. I do spend a lot of time reading stuffs like these and making my life miserably by trying to hit the front page of every search engines. It is more like an obssession. Hang on and listen…
1) Socialise if you have the time. Visit other foodies blogs. Join forums and share your recipes. Expand your circle by submitting your blogs to bookmarking sites.
2) If you have some awesome tips, write a nice article and submit them. Do you know that article submission can drive some interested parties to your site? It will also increase your links.
I have written several how to articles like how to roast turkey, how to clean squids and etc. Interesting enough, many people have found them useful eventhough I thought those are no-brainers. Therefore, you see, you never know when you will hit the goldmine.
The main thing is to continue blogging with the same passion you have for cooking and eating and you will do well.
