Ham & pineapple
Ever once in a while, my son will ask for this. It is something that I let them indulge in like every few months because I do not fancy feeding them cured meats. Moreover, these hams are mighty expensive and a three slices can set me back by more than RM20. That is enough to buy three fresh, whole chicken, you know.
What I normally do is to buy the more expensive cuts of ham which is the whole leg of the pig. Gammon ham, french ham or honey cured ham are ideal. I asked the butcher to slice the thickness equivalent to the thickness of three slices of the regular ham.
Then, when I got home, I will heat the pan with a little oil and give the ham a quick browning.
Get yourself a can of pineapples, drain the juice away. In a clean pan, heat a little oil, add the pineapple, put a few dashes of worchestershire sauce and Maggi seasoning. Normally, I will squeeze out the syrup of the pineapple and add a little bit of honey to glaze them.
Pour the pineapple and the glaze over the ham and you have a dish that every kid loves. But like I said, don’t indulge too often in such cured meats because they are salty, full of preservatives and whatnots.
