Har Lok

Long time ago, Har Lok is like the only type of prawn dishes you can order from restaurants. But lately, the name no longer appears. I am not sure why but we are into butter prawns, cheese prawns and all sort of western names.

So, the other day when I was in Melaka, I notice they are cooking something like Har Lok. Basically, it is a simple stir fry of onions and chillies with some tamarind juice. Then, the deep fried prawns are allowed to simmer in the sauce.

The dish is really yummy when sweetened a bit with sugar. Do try out this recipe and tell me your results!

    Hi, my mom always cooks this! It’s almost the exact thing except she doesn’t add sugar. I might tell her about it though. But without sugar, it’s still good!

    This dish is called Tamarind Prawns. Basically a Perenakan dish. The added sugar brings out the flavors beautifully. My favorite dish.
