Honey Taiwan sausages

I must call this Food Hell rather than Food Haven. 🙂 None of the foods that I posted lately is healthy. But then, if you want healthy foods, just go over to my other blog MalaysiaBest.

Between ‘English’ sausages and Taiwan sausages, I do not know which is more evil. I guess both are equally un-healthy as one contains lots of nitrates and whatever preservatives and softeners and the latter, lots of MSG, fats and colourings.

Oh well, we do not indulge in them every day.

Taiwan sausages are made with fresh minced pork and flavoured with spices. They are usually sold frozen.

No, those aren’t oil. It is honey.

There are lots of stalls selling Taiwan sausages in Penang, including outside of schools. I usually do not allow my kids to buy them because it is very costly, as half a sausage can cost RM1. Moreover, I do not trust hawkers with their re-cycled oil (will blog this one day).
So, once in a while, we will grab a packet and DIY at home. I cut the sausages slant wise, and fry them over low fire without any oil. When they turn brown, I pour in a generous amount of honey and let it caramelise.

And there you have it, a plate of fattening food but taste heavenly good.

    Hi Lilian,

I’m a great fan of taiwan sausages and almost crave for them EVERYDAY!!!

But i have difficulty finding them for sales in raw, which i think it would be less expensive than those stalls. Can you let me know where I can find these sinful sausages?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Cheers,
    Max

Max – They are sold in the non-halal section along with the frozen hams and sausages. The packaging is very oriental looking. You can’t miss it. I think the whole packet with 6 or 5 sausages is RM7.90 or something like that.

    Dear Max,

You can actually buy these Taiwan Sausage in packets from a stall selling Taiwan Sausage in Teluk Bayan, Bukit Jambul, Penang. They are selling at RM27 a pack of 20 sticks. And the sausage can last for about more than a month if nicely kept in freezer.

[…] must-eat of his porky goodness is definitely the sausage that resembles taiwanese sausages, which was aromatic and so tasty! even the lor bak was appetite whetting with the well-flavoured […]
