Lor Mai Kai

My little boy is a 100% pure Chinese boy. He loves rice, Chinese dimsum and even if he has Western foods, he will crave rice. Unlike my older sons, he will gladly opt for rice than pizza.

Now, he gets to choose where to eat and what to eat. It is a family thing that the kids get to choose and decide where to go for our meals whenever we go out. Sometimes, they will fight over the choices, torn between several places and that’s when I get the final say.

The other day, my little asked for lor mai kai and char siu pau. So, we took him to Tai Tong and he would have finished the whole lor mai kai if we had not stopped him. Lor Mai Kai is made of glutinous rice or sticky rice which can be hard to digest. So, we stole a few mouthfuls from him.

The lady asked me if I want a peach shape bun filled with lotus paste and a single salted duck egg yolk. I am not a fan of salted duck egg yolk but since she asked, I ordered one. Not bad.

My son loves lotus seed buns and I will buy back to Bangkok during my next trip.
The egg tart tastes good too. Better go early to this shop so that you can get a clean and unused table. This is the original Lor Mai Kai as I could not find it in Hong Kong during my recent trip.
