Mangosteen/manggis
I typed this as comments at my pool of photos at Flickr:
Mangosteen is a seasonal fruit found in Malaysia. It has thick, dark purple skin and white flesh. The flesh is sweetish and slightly sourish. Careful when eating because the thick skin has sap which will leave a permanent brown colour on clothes and supervise children when eating. The seed is a choking hazard.
To Malaysians, I suppose manggis needs no further intro. The local manggis is not available yet. This is from Thailand, bought and devoured yesterday. About 50 sen per fruit at the moment.
I suppose everyone also knows the old saying, after eating durians, eat manggis to ‘cool’ the heat from the durians.

One of my flickr group member posted a photo of manggis at Australian dollar $2.98 each! Gosh, at that price, the skin also must eat. LOL!
Hush4m3 - 50 sen Malaysian where got expensive leh? Manggis is expensive probably because the labour to harvest them. You see, the tree is very high and someone actually have to climb up and pluck them.

Oh Lilian, you remind of a sore in my childhood time. I love manggis so much that time, I actually finish half big box in one time by myself. And I had a few heavy throw up that nite. Since that day, for years I didn’t dare to touch it anymore. But now, after seeing this pic, I feel like crazing for one. -_-”

Hi Lilian, Your pictures are very well taken. I love manggis too. Last time, when I was young, togather with my cousins, we will go to the kampong behind our house to “steal” manggis. haha.. those manggis tasted the best… It cost one pound each in the UK! RM7 for one!
