Recipe : Alien feet soup (chicken and peanut)

One of my son went running around, screaming, eewss, ewwss….gross, gross, alien in te soup when I put this on the dining table.  Oh well, can’t blame him because I am sure many people, who are not Chinese will be grossed out too.  Son insisted that those feets were used for stepping on chicken dung!

Well, don’t worry.  Chicken feets are wrapped in another layer of skin when they are alive.  That layer had been peeled off, leaving this whitish gelatinous texture of skin and bones.  So, there aren’t any chicken dung soaked feets here, dear.

A closer look….

Recipe for chicken feet and peanut soup

Method:

Just boil everything for hours.  It takes a while for the peanut to soften.  By the time the peanut is soften, the feets will be yummylicious!  Slurrrppp, pttoooi, slurrrpp…pttooi….and soon, the whole table will be full of tiny bones.

Hope none of the readers are grossed out.  Welcome to Chinese cooking. :) BTW, I couldn’t get that son to even sip a spoonful of this soup.

Very nice introduction to Penang food. I am using it as an introduction to my colleague who is planning to visit Penang in another couple of months. A beginner myself, I hope to post more as I learn more….. stay on. Cheers.

Loved eating my grandmother’s Slovenian chicken soup and dumplings when I was a kid. Helped peel the outer skin many times. Not sure what the seasoning was, salt pepper and garlic for sure.
