Recipe : Fried wantan – best snacks

This is some quickie you can whip up real fast.  Just buy some mince meat (chicken or pork or even fish can be used) or mince them yourself.  Flavour it a bit, wrap and either fry or boil them.

There are round skin and square skin.  You can easily buy wantan wrappers in the supermarket.  I prefer round skin because it is bigger and my children love the skin more than the fillings.  So, the bigger, the better.

If you are frying your wantan, remember not to put too much fillings inside or else the inner part will not cook and the skin will be over fried, making it bitter.  Half a teaspoon of minced meat slathered over the skin, fold into half like a half-moon works best for me.

Forget about fancy recipes with water chestnuts, prawns etc. Here’s what I normally use:

Combine the meat with the flavourings.  Wrap as in the photo above.  Deep fry and drain well before serving.  Keep the meat flatten to fasten cooking and use hot oil to avoid oil clogging the little parcels.

I thought wantan is round. These looks more like ‘sui kow’. Both also I like…………

For cheese lovers, I used ‘laughing cow’ brand cube cheese. Unwrapped the individual cube, wrap it with the skin, sealed and fry. Eat when it is warm, the cheese melts within.
