Review : Chopper Board

Chopper Board has been around for several years. It is an economical place to eat local rice with a dash of Western influence. Kind of East meets West at cheap prices. The selling point of Chopper Board is their location where they are usually in busy shopping malls, right smack in the building.

So, if one is in a hurry for shopping or movie (like me), then it is the best place to run for a quick bite because all the other restaurants are located elsewhere. This is the Chopper Board in Gurney Plaza, Penang. Note the very traditional Chinese home arrangement with long tables, wooden stools and wooden doors and windows? I used to live in a house like that with the same kind of table and chairs! How authentic.

Foods are served in humble plates. This is a bowl of white rice with some lamb stew, half an egg and some peas and carrots. It comes with a glass of ginseng root drink. Cost only less than RM10, I think. My son likes the lamb stew flavour a lot. My other son ordered a bowl of minced pork soup with rice and the price is only RM6.50 if I am not mistaken. The portion satisfies even big eaters and certainly much more comforting than a meal of fast foods.

Isn’t the icecream just adorable in these tiny pie tee cups?  Very interesting eh?

Though Chopper Board’s foods aren’t exactly something to shout about, I must say that their management have been pretty constant.  Services have always been pleasant from the last few times I was there.  A good place for a comforting bowl of hot, white rice with spicy dish or some chicken chop.
