since reading your posts, i wanted a slow cooker, but wanted to know if you could put a roast in it without water. so i got a cheap one from asda. £7.00. and a big piece of rump. put it into the slow cooker without any water. cooked it all day, and it was the best piece of meat i ever tasted. i now use my more expensive cooker all the time, and i never put any water in it at all for joints of meat.that means any joint. you will finish up wit a perfect roast, and the pot will be nearly a third full of pure stock for the gravy.pore the stock into a pan carefully, and add the water from the veg, especially the cabbage water, some gravy thickener, and you have the best gravy you can make. your,s Alan
