Someone asked me for recommendations for budget hotels in Penang and I am stumped. I thought that Sunway and Cititel will be decent enough but apparently, their rates are RM195 per room which is beyond the budget. Frankly, it is awfully expensive if you ask me. I get a nice, big deluxe room in Cititel Midvalley for only RM205 nett. So, it is rather expensive for Penang Cititel to charge RM195.
So, anyone can recommend a decent place suitable for a young family with children? It is funny how I know about other states hotels but clueless about local hotels here.

(June 22, 2007 - 11:39 am)Sunway Penang is hopeless when it comes to service. Had an unpleasant experience late last year where they over-booked.
Cititel Penang is in a good location. You will find a few budget hotels closer to RM100 per day along the same stretch.
I miss eating in Penang 🙁

(June 22, 2007 - 12:04 pm)I think it’s more value for money to stay in an apartment compared to a hotel in Penang. He can google “Apartment reviews Penang” and he can get some reviews to make his decisions.

My mistake. The hotel located in Pen Road is Continental not Grand Con which is located near KOMTAR
I think Malaysia should be better than Oriental as I see many tourists bussess always drop the tourits off at either Continental or Malaysia

(June 26, 2007 - 7:58 pm)I do believe that cititel hotel is going for RM100 per nite for a standard room that comes with either a 1 queensize bed or 2 single bed. But this offer is only for those who make booking via their website. I did this booking in Feb of this year so unless they changed the pricing, cititel is the best place to stay at.
Jian
(June 27, 2007 - 12:59 am)Yeah Malaysia has loads of tourist. Oriental as well. Malaysia is slightly more expensive as well as a 3 star hotel. My fren told me. Anyway its ur choice : )
PlatinumGirl
