Which is your favourite char koay teow’s stall in Penang?

Come on, Penangites, tell me which is your favourite char koay teow stall in Penang?

char koay teow with prawns

My favourites are the one opposite Pulau Tikus Police Station which has squids and prawns. Of course, the photos are not according to the stalls I mentioned because LOL, all the CKT looks the same to me and I cannot recall which is which.

The night stall I like is the one in Kimberly street with mantis prawns. It goes well with the tong-sui.

Anyway, I am not keen on char koay teow ‘cos if I eat a whole plate, it makes me sick.

So, care to share the secret locations of your char koay teow places?

My personal favourite would be the stall in China Street at night. It’s not very well known because the China Street area is pretty dead at night and only the Char Koay Teow stall and a few other stalls operate in the coffee shop at night.

I like the former stall in Terengganu Road as well but that young man has since retired to help his mom’s stall at Swatow Lane. So now, i had to go all the way to Swatow Lane whenever i miss his Char Koay Teow.

CKT is one of my absolute favourites..!! i was in Penang many years ago.. but had a wimp as a travelling companion.. and not only did he get sick.. he was throwing up.. even with just a car ride.. Arrrgghhh..!! so me.. being nice and all.. i had to stay back at the hotel. .and kept him company.. 🙁

Heard Lorong Selamat one very good, unfortunately due to their poor service and attitude, dont think I’ll encourage anyone to give it a try.

Anyone try the CKT in mainland? Tmn Inderawasih & Bukit Mertajam one are pretty good.

And another one along Anson Road (@ the road side) opposite formal EPF office, is good also. That one only operates at night. Fried with duck egg.

cindy – I see the people queuing up, I oso lazy to bother about it. I like the one at Johor Road, not sure if we are talking about the same one? Duck egg memang best!

mamabok – Aww…you missed the best we have to offer. Never mind, come to Penang and I will be your guide.

jlshyang – Swatow lane! I think the blue plate is from Swatow Lane lah. So many prawns, best lah. But now they moved in or still stay outside?

My favorite is also the shop in Pulau Tikus – not the one at the corner but the one facing Arcadia Florist. I’ve tried the regular chicken egg and also the duck egg version. Yum yum…:)

The Lorong Selamt one is overpriced and over-eksyen. Don’t want to give them face.

in my opinion, i certainly like the CKT during the night at the jelutong market. The CKT is still being cooked with charcoal. This is the best. The stall is directly the desert van named “MAK TOU YOU”. TRY IT OUT!!!! it is my personal nice
