The Chinese Lunar New Year is still charging ahead in full steam. This morning, I was woken up by loud cymbals and drums because my neighbour downstairs called a lion dance troupe to their apartment. Lion dance is suppose to drive away evil spirits and invite in good chi and good luck for the home.
It has been all eating and snacking these few days. Every homes I visit offered lots and lots of cookies and snacks. Sometimes, it is hard to resist because the hostess has set out all her homemade cookies and insisted we try them. So, we have to keep popping those goodies to make them happy.
I notice that there is an increase in the number of homes that serve alcohol too. You can find wine, beer and various cocktail mixes from most homes. Instead of the regular soda pop, they are offering booze. I like! But so far, I don’t have any luck with finding a home that offers me a game of mahjong. Everyone is still busy visiting one another’s home so no one has the time to sit down for a long session of gambling yet. For those who are looking for party games online, they may want to try online bingo .
As for me, I am not a fan of bingo and certainly not online because I like the interactive loud chats with friends and families. Do you know that my sons all know how to play mahjong? They could play from as young as seven years old. In fact, the elder two can even sit down with their uncles and win the game.
Anyway, we must be able to differentiate social gambling like what we normally do during Chinese Lunar New Year and not getting caught into serious ones. So, even if you are playing bingo games , don’t get caught into the game because I wouldn’t advice anyone to spend too much time and money on them.
To me, all these eating, gambling and drinking is just a short period of festivities and a way to improve ties with friends and families. I will have to worry about the bad skin due to too much nuts and the extra inches on the waistline later on.
